This year, February 10 is European Epilepsy Day, organised by Epilepsy Advocacy Europe (EAE), a joint Task Force of the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).

This is the fourth annual European Epilepsy Day which raises awareness of the disease and the everyday challenges faced by the estimated 6 million people with epilepsy in Europe.

Each EED has its own theme. The EAE has chosen ‘Epilepsy is more than seizures’ as the theme this year. The EAE poster for 2014 highlights that stigma in epilepsy can cause inequality, social exclusion as well as  employment problems and to improve quality of life for people with epilepsy we need information and training, employment legislation, access to treatment and research funding.

We are fully supportive of these initiatives. At UCB we also invest in research that deepens our knowledge of this disease and explore innovative approaches to finding solutions for patients.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness of the disease and access to care, and to deliver therapies that can help patients to manage their condition.
