329 Likes Driving Innovation and Impactful Changes at UCB Posted by Benoit Cox, Development Science 09-Aug-2023 Asking big questions is a fundamental part of scientific inquiry and is one of the starting points for new discoveries, breakthroughs and driving innovation. At UCB, by not being afraid to ask big questions, we are able to challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of medical knowledge, in our drive to make impactful changes to patients’ lives. Creative and innovative thinking The history of science is awash with examples of big questions that have led to remarkable leaps forward. For instance, asking the question what causes infectious diseases? led to the discovery of bacteria and viruses, and subsequently to the development of antibiotics and vaccines. We have come a long way since then, but we are still driving innovation and reaching for new discoveries by probing the unknown with big questions. These questions require creative and innovative thinking, and they challenge us to explore new areas of inquiry that were previously unexplored. Fostering Curiosity and Innovation at UCB By working together, we seek out the next big insightful questions that can challenge current thinking and accepted models. We strive to nurture our curiosity and drive innovation by fostering an environment where it can flourish. This means giving our colleagues the space to ask, explore, experiment, and sometimes fail. We are working with incredibly complex problems that require years of collaboration and problem-solving. When we don't find the answer the first time, we use that as a learning opportunity until we find the answer. Curiosity: Is Key to Creativity and Innovation Asking big questions and remaining inquisitive are both qualities that are at the heart of driving innovation at UCB and are critical to expanding the possibilities of what we can achieve. As the pace of innovation continues to accelerate, we will continue to seek out important questions to find real-life solutions that enable the patients we serve to live longer, healthier lives. And remember, Einstein once said, "I have no special talents; I am just passionately curious." Find out how UCB is innovation in healthcare: Innovation is | UCB.
