The episodes will be released in conjunction with the 11th Fragility Fracture Network (FFN) Global Congress 2023 in Oslo (3rd-6th October) and the 2023 American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) Annual Meeting in Vancouver (13th-16th October). Hosted by Cesar Libanati, UCB’s Head of Medical Affairs and Medical Strategy, Bone, Fragility Fractures in Focus is based on the P4 Health Spectrum framework, which looks to shift focus away from disease to the promotion of a state of wellness, defined as a state of optimal health. The four Ps – predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory – are intrinsically patient-centric, allowing each episode to explore how the model can create value for people living with osteoporosis. This year, the 11th FFN Global Congress’ theme is ‘enlightening fragility fracture care’. We believe that patients who play an active role in the management of their osteoporosis can have a transformational impact on outcomes. The third podcast – entitled Power to the Patient – unpacks how this works practically in the clinical setting, focusing on the ‘Participatory’ component of the P4 framework. Dr Zoe Paskins, Consultant Rheumatologist at Keele University, joins us to discuss how the right tools and resources can support patients to make informed decisions along the care pathway. The ASBMR Annual Meeting is the world’s largest and most diverse bone congress, bringing together experts in the fields of bone, mineral and musculoskeletal health to explore the latest advancements in disease management. In the fourth and final episode of Fragility Fractures in Focus – entitled This Time, It’s Personal – we are joined by Dr Kenneth Poole, Professor of Metabolic Bone Disease and Consultant Rheumatologist at the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, who deep dives into the topic of personalization and how the latest digital tools and AI can enhance post-fracture care. Worldwide, osteoporosis causes more than 8.9 million fractures annually, resulting in an osteoporosis fracture every 3 seconds. However, osteoporosis is alarmingly overlooked – up to 80% of people who have suffered at least one fragility fracture are left undiagnosed or untreated. Adopting a patient-centered approach – one which harnesses the power of digital innovation – can help us to close this significant treatment gap for patients.
